Methodology
CO2 calculations use lifecycle assessment emission factors (kg CO2e per kg of packaging material). We assume an average packaging weight per unit based on industry standard packaging weights (takeaway container: 30g, food bag: 20g, bottle: 50g, cup: 15g, cutlery set: 25g).
Plastic waste totals assume 90% of plastic is not recycled (global average per Geyer et al., 2017 -- only 9% of all plastic ever produced has been recycled). Decomposition timelines reflect real-world conditions, not industrial composting.
